When InterWeave formally renamed its product to the InterWeave Automation Platform^AI, the superscript was a deliberate choice. Not "Platform with AI." Not "Platform Plus AI." The caret — the exponent marker — signals something multiplicative, not additive.
This document is a plain-language explanation of what changed, why it matters, and what it means for every mid-market business running on InterWeave today.
Integration Used to Be About Pipes
For most of its history, enterprise integration was a plumbing job. Data flowed from System A to System B through connectors, field mappings, and transformation rules. When something broke, a developer fixed it. When a new system came in, a new connector was built. The platform was sophisticated infrastructure — but it was passive infrastructure.
- Connectors move data on schedule
- Exceptions surface in error logs
- Humans route, escalate, resolve
- Rules coded once, updated rarely
- Platform reports what happened
- SmartAgents act on data in motion
- Exceptions resolved before they surface
- AI routes, escalates, resolves autonomously
- Rules adapt based on outcomes
- Platform decides what should happen
The Five Layers — Each Made Exponential
The Platform^AI isn't one AI bolt-on — it's intelligence woven across all five layers of the architecture:
Each layer amplifies the one above it. AI SmartAgents wouldn't be possible without the real-time data access SmartIntegration provides. FlowCopilot can't coach what SmartFlows hasn't already logged. The exponent works because the foundation is solid.
An integration platform that only moves data is infrastructure. A platform that understands data and acts on it is capability.
— Bruce Magown, CEO, InterWeaveWhat "Autonomous" Actually Looks Like
The word "autonomous" often sounds abstract. Here's a concrete example from the platform in production:
A payment fails in CardConnect. The CRM record doesn't update. Your billing team finds the discrepancy three days later in a reconciliation report. Someone manually updates the record, emails the customer, and logs the exception.
A payment fails. The AI SmartAgent detects the event in real time, cross-references the customer record in Salesforce, triggers a retry logic sequence, flags the account for follow-up in the CRM, and sends a pre-approved communication — all before the billing team opens their inbox.
Why Now?
Three forces converged to make this evolution possible: the maturity of large language models capable of reasoning over business data, the availability of real-time event streams from modern SaaS APIs, and InterWeave's decade of connector and orchestration infrastructure that provides the data substrate AI needs to act.
The Platform^AI didn't start with AI — it earned AI. The intelligence layer runs on top of a foundation built across hundreds of mid-market integrations spanning CRM, ERP, payments, and eCommerce.
The superscript is a promise: that the work your integrations do will compound. Not linearly — exponentially. That's what the caret means.
